Dollar Academy Project

Dollar Academy, founded in 1818 through the benefaction of trader, John McNabb, is a co-educational day and boarding school in Scotland. The school offers advanced facilities for its students and is regarded as one of the top schools in the country. Set amongst the landscape of central Scotland, Dollar Academy is at the forefront of Scottish education.

Structural glazing
On this project, structural glazing was added to the sports pavilion to increase the intake of natural light into the building throughout the day and maximise the views of the sport being played. This new structural glazing brings a contemporary appearance to the building. In addition to our work on the pavilion, Gray & Dick fabricated and installed a glazed curtain wall to the school's main entrance. These glazing units are joined and sealed by discrete 10mm silicone joints for optimal weatherproofing and thermal efficiency. The glazed curtain wall allows daylight to penetrate the building and provides a comfortable and inviting atmosphere for the school's students, visitors and teaching staff. 

         

Glass partitioning was added to a computer lab at the school, creating a comfortable, secure and airy study space. The new partitioning is durable, functional and defines this space within the school. 

Architectural steelwork
At Gray & Dick, creating bespoke structural and architectural steelwork is one of our specialities. Utilising this service, our skilled team expertly designed and fabricated the structural steelwork that forms two operable timber clad gates. These gates easily rotate to create room dividers and can be adjusted as desired to change the spatial arrangements within the sixth form common room. The empty space within each gate has innovative and inbuilt storage areas, for items such as TVs, video games and other media.
