45 years of experience gained by your side. 45 years of innovation to bring you the best. 45 years of honouring history and heritage. At Gray & Dick we are very proud of what we have built over the last 45 years, not only in terms of our work but as a company too.

Since our founding in 1978, a lot has changed in the world and our industry. But one thing that remains the same is the attention to detail and dedication to our work that allows Gray & Dick to offer an unparalleled service to every client.

45 years in business (and counting) is an achievement we believe is worth celebrating. We wanted to seize the opportunity to celebrate our history as a company and how far we’ve come to be the Gray & Dick you know today.

Meetings of the minds
Having worked together at Conder Steel Fabrications Scotland, Henry Gray and Crawford Dick saw an opening in the construction industry for experienced project management consultants. From this initial idea, Gray & Dick was conceived.

The first Gray & Dick office opened on Royal Terrace in Glasgow in 1978 offering “turnkey construction services”. Through the years the business evolved into a company with both manufacturing and installation facilities to specialise in engineering bespoke structures, producing project specific designs and details.

Manufacturing in-house
From the early days, it was recognised that the control of manufacture should be in-house in order to ensure that all components produced are within acceptable tolerances. Our experience and decision to offer a unique service to architects and contractors has been a cornerstone of providing the best possible experience for our clients.

Several of our clients are still coming back to us today. Having carried out a lot of the original SPT fit outs for various underground stations, over 30 years later we are delighted to be involved with them once again.

While Henry and Crawford have now retired, the new generation have taken the reins to drive Gray & Dick forward for another 45 years. Stuart Gray and Fraser Gray, Henry Gray’s sons, along with Richard Taylor now run the company. Between them they bring almost 70 years’ worth of experience within the structural glazing market.

Designing for the future
In the 45 years since our founding, we've become market leaders in the design, supply and installation of structural glazing, architectural metalwork and high-quality cladding systems. We pride ourselves on delivering expert advice and high-quality products to both the commercial and domestic market. Taking client’s and architect’s design concepts, we use our wealth of experience to engineer structures in order to realise the design aesthetics. Utilising the latest design and detailing software, all designs are developed from concept through to production details by our own in-house structural engineers.

We have also partnered with Sky-Frame, MHB and Raico and are accredited installers of Promat Systemglas, Rimex Metals and Hansen Glass Thermospan, to offer the best design and build solutions for our clients.

From glass facades and entrances, to canopies and walkways through to bespoke structures and domestic projects, we are proud to have played a part in the changing landscape of the UK. Within Gray & Dick’s hometown of Glasgow, we have contributed to the city’s history and heritage with work on St Enoch’s Subway Station, Govan Underground, Kelvin Hall and Glasgow’s Theatre Royal, to name a few.

At Gray & Dick we have left our mark on the distillery industry across Scotland, working on projects for Lindores Abbey Distillery, Ian Macleod Distillers and most recently Benbecula Distillery. Through our 45 years in business we have gained extensive experience with bespoke projects for residential clients such as Armadale and Blackhouse Forest Estate, turning them into unforgettable destinations. We are immensely proud of everything we have achieved over the last 45 years, and are excited to see what the next 45 years hold for us.
